Spend Well: Take Advantage Of Deals And Dollar Savings
Spend Well: Take Advantage Of Deals And Dollar Savings
June 26, 2024
Who doesn’t like a bargain? Whether you’re comfortable with your current finances or feeling a pinch due to fixed incomes and rising costs, no one likes to waste money or overspend. And apparently, some of the biggest retailers in the country are acutely aware of this. Axios just reported that such stores as Walmart, Target, and McDonald’s are all featuring a “summer of discounts” to lure in customers with lower prices and good values. Apparently, spending at these discount stores began to tick up in the Fall of 2023, with many consumers more concerned with value than premium quality. And no wonder: Axios reports that in April of this year, grocery prices registered 30% higher than they were in 2020. So value and discount shopping is definitely the way to go.
When many of us think of discount shopping, Costco comes to mind, and for good reason. Whether it’s buying in bulk at a good price or splurging on their $1.50 hotdog, it’s understandable why so many flock to Costco (and admit it, you also like the samples). While Costco doesn’t offer specific senior discounts, they do offer many products for good prices that are relevant to older shoppers. For some of the most popular, take out your Costco card and click here. And if you’re wondering whether it makes sense to shop at Costco versus some of the other Big-Box stores, such as BJ’s and Sam’s Club, Better Report breaks down the differences and the options here.
When it comes to discounts specifically for seniors, there’s no shortage of stores and service providers. While you may wonder, especially if you’re only in your 50s or financially comfortable, whether you should pursue a senior discount, there’s no shame in receiving something that is clearly intended as a marketing strategy to get you to try a product or purchase an item or service. Given that, we’ve got an up-to-date list of senior discount resources and recommendations to share with you.
