Movie Magic: Celebrating Recent Films And Anticipating Movies To Come
March 11, 2026

So, is the popcorn ready? Are the nachos in the oven? Are you getting ready to watch this year’s Oscars Ceremony on Sunday, March 15th? It’s the 98th time this Hollywood celebration has occurred, and it will be hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien. You’ll be able to watch on multiple platforms, including ABC, Hulu, and YouTube TV. If you want to watch or stream any of the nominated movies before the ceremony, grab your remote and click here for information. And if you’re really a movie buff and have followed every film nominated this year, whether a blockbuster or short documentary, take a look at New York magazine’s ranking of every 2026 Oscar-nominated movie up for an award this year.
In recent years, many older women have been nominated for acting awards, a fact attributed to filmmakers being willing to tell stories about more complex older women, and female directors willing to take a bet that movie audiences will relate to older female characters. This year’s crop of actor nominees does include one older woman (73-year-old actress Amy Madigan for the movie Weapons), but it also includes 73-year-old first-time nominee Delroy Lindo for the movie Sinners (the most nominated movie of all time), who was also nominated in the category of best supporting actor. A recent profile of Lindo in The Wall Street Journal chronicles the ups and downs of his long career, and his advice to younger actors to “stay the course” as they pursue this difficult career path.
If you’re interested in films that might be of more interest to older viewers, you may want to consider the recent AARP awards for Movies for Grown-Ups. The films nominated for these awards do overlap somewhat with the Oscar nominees, though they also include television shows and themes reflecting the tastes of more mature viewers. No spoilers here, however. To find out the winners of the AARP awards, make yourself comfy on your couch and watch the full awards show here.
And what about this year’s new movie offerings? While a few have already hit the theaters (Wuthering Heights and Hoppers, for example), there are dozens more to come, both in theaters and streaming shortly thereafter. The offerings include Blockbuster predictions (Project Hail Mary and The Odyssey), long-awaited sequels (The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Dune 3), and plenty of films to enjoy with your grandkids (Spider-Man Brand New Day and Minions and Monsters). So get ready to put some dates in your calendar and find out about all of this year’s offerings here.
